Applying to college is a stressful journey.  An exciting journey, but definitely one that can make students AND parents want to throw up their arms and pull the covers over their heads.  The reality is, more students than ever are applying to college according to the College Board (the company that administers the SAT).  Unfortunately, people are creatures of habit and most parents want their children to apply to schools they know are “good” or that they have heard of.  The reasons for this still escape me.  But, this is how things work.  What this translates to is that gaining admission to a school that has name recognition can be very difficult.  This is where systems like the College Admissions Blueprint can really be an essential tool.  Applying to college today is a completely different animal than it was 10, 20, or 30 years ago.

The sobering reality is that students and parents need to keep an eye toward the future and college admission starting with their freshman year of high school.  While there may not be a ton of action items, there is a mindset and thought process that should be used to select classes, extra curricular activities, work, and community service.
